Estimates and quotes
Q: What is the cost per square foot to install porcelain tile?
A: The average cost for labor to install Ceramic tile in the West Palm Beach, FL area is around $6 per square foot. However, it's important to note that your final quote may differ. Factors such as the location of the job, the installer’s schedule, the type of property (condominium, residential, single family house, 2 story house, gated community), whether furniture needs to be moved, and the work hours can all influence the cost. For example some installers may prefer to start early in the morning or work into the evening to ensure the tile is dry for the next day.

Tile Removal and Installation
Q: Can we live in the house while the floor is being removed and installed?
A: Yes, you can absolutely live in the house while the flooring is being removed and installed. At Davis Floor Masters, we prioritize clear communication with our customers throughout the entire process. We ensure you're kept informed about each stage of the project and what to expect on a daily basis, making the experience as smooth and convenient as possible for you.
Q: Will there be a lot of dust when removing the tiles?
A: No, we minimize dust by using a HEPA dust collection system to capture it during the removal process. Additionally, we take extra care to cover all your valuables and exposed furniture with plastic to protect your home from dust and debris.
Q: How do you dispose of debris?
A: All debris is carefully packed into large woven bags and transported in an enclosed vehicle to nearby landfills for proper disposal, ensuring a clean and efficient process.
Q: Can I reuse my baseboard?
A: Yes, you can reuse your baseboards; however, please note that some baseboards may crack during removal. It’s advisable to have a matching baseboard on hand to replace any damaged ones. Additionally, some baseboards may have built-up paint, caulking, or holes from nails, which can make them unsuitable for reuse. We recommend an inspection to assess their condition before deciding to keep them.
Q: What materials do I need to install tile, and how do I know how much to buy?
A: To install tile, you'll need a solid substrate which may require a backer board, anti-fracture membrane, cement board screws, self-leveling mortar, uncoupling membrane, or a waterproof membrane. Additionally, you'll need a thinset mortar (A118.1 or better) for proper adhesion. During the installation, we’ll assess your substrate condition to determine the best materials for preparation.
For grout, we recommend a fine aggregate, polymer-modified grout that maintains its color and has a built-in sealer. There are also more advanced grout options available depending on your needs. You’ll also need spacers to ensure even grout lines.
Each product comes with a coverage chart on the label that shows how many bags or rolls are needed based on your area’s square footage, making it easier to determine how much to buy.
Q: Can I tile over existing tile?
A: Yes, you can tile over existing tile. To ensure a strong bond, we use a primer that strengthens the adhesion between the thinset and the existing tile. Then, we install the new tile using a high-performance polymer-modified thinset for optimal results.
Note: Tiling over existing tile will raise the height of your floor, which may require adjustments. Doors in the area where new tiles will be installed might need to be trimmed to swing correctly. Kitchen floor cabinets could also be affected, and doorway thresholds will be higher. Additionally, if the existing tile fails, your new floor tile will also fail. Therefore, it’s important to assess the condition of the current tile before proceeding with installation.
Q: How long does it take to replace the tile on my shower walls and floors?
A: Typically, it takes about 4-6 days to complete the entire process of removing the existing tile, including the substrate, prepping the surface, installing new tiles, and grouting. The exact timeline may vary depending on the size and condition of your shower, as well as any additional custom work.
Q: Can my hollow tile be fixed?
Answer: Yes, if you have a solid substrate, a hollow tile can be fixed. The void or cavity beneath the tile can be injected with adhesive, filling the empty space and providing the necessary support to secure the tile in place.
Q: Can shower floors be replaced without removing the wall tiles?
A: Yes, the shower stall tile floor can be carefully removed without damaging the wall tiles. You will need to replace the waterproofing over the existing mortar bed to ensure proper functionality.
